Mustard seed in a honey sandwich

Today we visited the FA Hamilton clinic to find out if/how many successfully fertilised eggs we have, and receive implantation. It was a nervous drive over, but at least the traffic was good so there was no meltdown due to tardiness.

The awesome news is that out of the 8 eggs that were mature enough to undergo ICSI, 6 successfully fertilised. Each egg gets a rating which has numerals and letters to indicate how developed and viable it is. We managed to get a very good one for implantation, and the other 5 will be put on ice for another time.

The implantation process went okay. The only horrible thing was I had to have a really full bladder, and I took this instruction very seriously – perhaps a little too seriously! My bladder so full that I was in pain and had to release some before the procedure. There is nothing quite like have a bursting full bladder and then having to let just a little bit out. It’s a practice in restraint and self-control.

Post implantation instructions have been

  • Continue with 8 hourly progesterone pessaries

  • Don’t get too hot or over exert myself

  • Visualise a mustard seed in a honey sandwich to help think about keeping it in place

The next milestone is 2 blood tests, 4 days apart, in a couple of weeks’ time to confirm results. This coincides with the Easter weekend, so hopefully Pathlab is still open, and I will have my lovely in-laws on hand for support whatever way it goes.

Fingers crossed. And four leaf clovers. And any other good luck symbols!
